Summary
Acid etching is used to 'fizz' raw concrete surfaces, dissolving a little bit of the surface calcite in the concrete to provide a surface roughness or profile that helps the adhesion and bonding of coatings, primarily epoxy floor paints, to the concrete.
Usually diluted muriatic acid (10%) is used to acid etch, but other acids are available too. Other concrete surface preparation methods are available and more commonly used than acid etching.
